DOT Physicals - Flight Physicals - Fit for Duty Physicals

At Conservative Care Occupational Health we work with every mode of the Department of Transportation (DOT): Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA)

Navigating the rules and regulations of the different agencies can be frustrating especially if you have been audited or have an audit planned.

WE DEAL WITH THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS EVERYDAY! Let us help you, we continually educate our staff on the ever changing rules and regulations published by the DOT.

DOT Physicals

Federal law instructs that drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) need to receive routine physical examinations under the Department of Transportation. DOT physicals are highly regulated to ensure that driver’s stay safe and are aimed to detect any physical, mental, and emotional issues that can affect drivers’ ability to safely drive a commercial vehicle.

Our DOT medical examiners undergo specific training to understand the regulation and prevent drivers from being inappropriately disqualified. Call us today for an appointment

Non-DOT Physicals

We offer a complete line of post hire/pre-placement physicals to meet your specific needs. We can tailor a post hire/pre-placement exam to meet your needs for your facility.

WHAT ARE EMPLOYEE PHYSICALS?

Employee physicals are aimed to ensure workers stay safe and healthy on the job. Many jobs with specific requirements need regular physical exams for employees to boost workforce safety. Other jobs that involve interaction with the public require physicals to protect both the employee and the public. Need a physical? Contact Conservative Care today to schedule an appointment.

Firefighter Physicals

Few professions require the same physical vitality as that of a firefighter. Conservative Care Occupational Health has designed a physical exam consistent with the demanding needs of the duties. To determine a candidate’s fitness, we incorporate the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Standard 1582 on Comprehensive Occupational Medicine Programs for Fire Departments to keep firefighters performing at their best. Prospective firefighters will need medical clearance to wear a respirator. Respirator fit tests are also required for firefighters and firefighter candidates.

Your provider will recommend the following in keeping with the NFPA guidelines:

  • Medical background and physical exam
  • Blood analysis and metabolic profile
  • Urine test
  • Infectious disease screening
  • Pulmonary function test
  • Chest X-rays
  • EKG and cardiac assessment
  • Cancer screening
  • Hearing exam
  • Vision testing
  • Vaccination update
  • Other information/screening as deemed necessary by the provider

Police Officer Physicals

The physically demanding police officer profession requires a physical evaluation. This important physical exam ensures you are fit and healthy enough to perform the duties required. While similar to having a routine physical performed, a police physical exam is more detailed, ranging from the standard vitals to muscular and skeletal evaluation.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

Untitled design

A drug and alcohol free workplace provides your employees with the safety necessary to operate at their best ability. Conservative Care Occupational Health offers drug and alcohol testing for both individuals and workplaces. Drug and alcohol testing can be required for a variety of needs including pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, at random, and to return to duty. Following DOT rules and regulations, drug and alcohol testing with Conservative Care Occupational Health helps your company stay in compliance. All drug test results are reviewed and verified by our Medical Review Officer.

Drug and Alcohol Testing Options

Specific types of analysis will be necessary to detect drug or alcohol presence. Some tests have better detection ability that other methods cannot determine. Hair drug testing provides a longer window of drug presence and is more difficult to cheat, but urine drug testing is much more common in the workforce. Conservative Care Occupational Health works with your company to determine the best approach to keeping your employees safe and your company productive.

Random Drug Screening

Choosing employees at random is often a part of the drug and alcohol testing process for workplaces. The best way to ensure your employees confidence in a completely random and unbiased screen selection is let a third party team select the employees to be tested. Your Conservative Care Occupational Health team can manage the random drug screening selection for your company. All drug and alcohol testing results will be reviewed by our medical staff.

DOT-Compliance Testing

A DOT-regulated company needs to have a DOT-compliant drug and alcohol testing program in place. We strictly follow DOT compliance standards with all drug and alcohol testing panels.

We work with DOT-regulated industries, such as the:

  • Public transportation (FTA)
  • Trucking industry (FMCSA)
  • Pipeline industry (PHMSA)
  • Railroad industry (FRA)
  • Aviation industry (FAA)
  • Maritime industry (USCG)

Pre-employment Screening

Pre-employment testing typically occurs after an employment offer has been extended to the prospective employee. Each state has their own laws regarding pre-employment drug screening. Conservative Care Occupational Health closely monitors any changes in regulations to ensure your employee's are safely operating by industry standards.

Reasonable Suspicion Screening

This type of testing requires a company to operate under a clear drug testing policy and comprehensive management training defining what justifies reasonable suspicion. Before screening, reasonable suspicion should be confirmed with HR, another supervisor, or manager. Conservative Care Occupational Health offers Reasonable Suspicion Training for businesses interested in bolstering their drug and alcohol policies.

Workers Compensation Screening

Post-accident or workers comp screening is performed after an employee has been involved in a workplace accident. Post-accident screening can help determine if drugs and or alcohol were responsible or a part of the accident occurring. This type of testing requires a clear drug testing policy and employee understanding of DOT guidelines to Distinguish post accident for DOT and NON-DOT. Within the company policy, clearly established guidelines must be determined for how soon after the accident testing must occur.

What Is Audiometry?

Hearing loss comes with age but can affect anyone. According to a study in American Family Physician, at least 25% of people over 50 experience hearing loss, and 50% of people over 80 experience it. One way to test for hearing loss is through the use of audiometry.

Drug Screening Consortium

A third-party administrator or consortium manages an employer's DOT random drug and alcohol testing program. Often, a consortium manages the drug and alcohol testing for multiple businesses. This allows employers the security of truly random screening while diversifying the the odds of their employees selection for a random test. All DOT employees are required to complete a pre-employment drug test and a consortium strictly follows the rules and regulations to ensure a company and their staff are DOT compliant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need for my employees to use Telemedicine?

To access Telemedicine, employees will need an internet-enabled device (i.e., smartphone, tablet, or computer) with a webcam and microphone. A quiet, private place should also be set aside for the employee’s telemedicine visit.

Can employees access Telemedicine on any mobile device?

Recommended mobile device options are as follows:

  • Any Apple (iOS) device newer than 3 years old and running iOS 8 or higher.
  • Any Android device newer than 2 years old and running Android 4.4 or higher.

For the best experience using the mobile app, a Wi-Fi connection of 4G or higher is recommended using a current iOS or Android device with a mic and webcam.

Is Telemedicine only a first-aid option, meaning an injured or ill employee will eventually have to visit a Conservative Care?

No. Most employees with injuries that are treatable using Telemedicine are fully treated from onset to post-recovery via our telemedicine platform. Should in-person care be required, the injured or ill employee will be referred to the nearest Conservative Care clinic to continue treatment.

How long does a Telemedicine visit last?

The length of each telemedicine visit varies depending on each employee’s treatment needs. It’s worth noting that with telemedicine, no time is spent traveling to and from a medical facility.

How secure is a Telemedicine visit?

Telemedicine deploys a HIPAA-compliant system of secure communication to maintain the integrity of your employees’ protected health information (PHI). The platform is equipped to monitor communications for prevention of accidental or malicious breaches. In addition, Conservative Care does not record video visits or store patient records in this platform.

Benefits of onsite Occupational Medicine services

Increased participation in events like flu clinics and other vaccination clinics. When the employer takes the extra effort to make vaccinations more convenient for the employees the employees are thankful and appreciative of the service and the employees are more likely to take advantage of the services.

Better business productivity is the best ROI for performing Occupational Medicine services onsite for a company. When Occupational Medicine services are performed onsite the amount of time the employee is away from the worksite is significantly reduced. If the employee does not have to drive to and from a appointment then the company is saving valuable time that the employee can remain productive at their worksite.

Increased regulatory compliance is the ultimate goal of onsite Occupational Medical services. When Occupational Medicine services are performed onsite there are fewer hurdles and excuses that prevent key employees from getting these services. When employees have to go offsite for physicals and testing there is always some reluctance to let them leave for even a short time period. Onsite Occupational Medical services allows key company employees to remain onsite and available while receiving the regulatory required medical services or training.

Onsite Occupational Medicine Services offered: Conservative Care offers most of their clinical services at your location. Vaccination clinics can be scheduled months or weeks in advance to make sure that employees are well and ready to work. Onsite Occupational Medicine services allow key personnel to remain engaged and close to the worksite.
